What Christmas Means To Me

I hope this holiday season finds you all healthy and hopefully getting into the "spirit".
As a child, I recall the excitement I felt as Christmas approached, despite my first-grade teacher's revelation that Santa Claus wasn't real (she was quite the bitter spinster). I still chose to believe in Santa because I wanted to, and my parents made sure that our family celebrated and worked hard to create wonderful memories.
I remember those wonderful feelings coming back as I watched our children, then our grandchildren, experiencing the magic of Christmas; there really is something to the saying "seeing the world through a child's eyes".
However, as I got older, I began to notice that my Christmas spirit was waning, and it bothered me. Why couldn't I embrace what all the commercials and social posts were urging me to do and feel? And unfortunately this went on for a few years. Why was this happening to me? It's not that I didn't try; I just couldn't "make" myself feel the way I used to. I even tried to listen to Christmas music (which I love! I mean, I have 1,770 Christmas songs in my playlist!), but it wasn't doing it for me either.
I am from the camp who doesn't like to play Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Reason being (at least in my mind) that too much of a good thing...well, you know. By the time I was getting to Christmas time I was done with the music! I mean, come on - how many times do I need Johnny Mathis & Andy Williams remind me that it's the most wonderful time of the year!? Then, this year happened.
After 'retiring' from my daily radio show on 1450-AM KOKO, I really was missing it, so I started a new internet radio show I titled "Jaggy's Jukebox". I get to play singers, songs & music from the 40's, 50's & 60's that nobody plays anymore, and I'm really enjoying it. As December approached I decided I needed to play Christmas music, so I started researching and gathering tunes.
Now, as I said, the 'traditional' Christmas music & songs every year that you hear everywhere had not been working for me lately. But as I started getting ready for my December shows, I started really getting into the spirit! Then it hit me - it's because I'm playing different songs by different artists that no one plays anymore! And yes, it's working for me!
So here is my Christmas wish for you - I am hoping that you can catch my radio show this week and next, 7pm Central Time each night, as I will be playing all Christmas music, with a Jaggy twist. And maybe, just maybe, it might help get you into the right frame of mind as well. BTW, I don't make any money from my show, I just do it because I love it.
My show plays on the internet, my website, TuneIn app and my own personal app (both apps are free!). You can click on the links below.
And I will wrap by saying what I end every show with - Be Good, Be Kind, & Pay It Forward.
