Mind Over Matter

So I recently had a birthday. As you get older, it seems that birthdays aren't quite as important and as fun as they used to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm still glad I have another one; but it takes me back to when, as a kid, your birthday was a very special day - at home, at school.
Then you have the milestone birthdays - 16, 18, 21. Then as you get older, your friends still like throwing you parties, for 30, 40 years old. It's not necessarily that they like you as much or more, they just need an excuse to have a party. Of course, I was always one to make sure I provided that opportunity for frivolity.
But as you get older, I've discovered that birthdays aren't quite as important, maybe for a few reasons. 1. You're older! partying is not at the top of your list anymore. Naps are up there for sure though. 2. People kinda forget about your birthday. 3. Unfortunately, you've outlived some of you friends.
But what I really miss is when my grandkids would come over and help me celebrate. They used to love giving me presents and homemade cards, and they loved to watch me open and read them. Now everyone is grown up and we all do our own thing; and that's ok. But I was looking through some old photos the other day and found some back when we used to get together as a family, please indulge me as I share some.

So those are my favorite birthdays; I miss those days.
But I do want to thank all of my friends who took the time out of your busy schedule to wish me a happy birthday by text, social media and other. It really does mean a lot.
The only thing that really bothered me was when I went the other day to renew my drivers license. As the nice young person had me make sure all the information was correct, it was a shock to look at the year I was born - so long ago! I still feel young in my mind though - I guess that's a good thing. Just don't ask my muscles how old they feel.
I remember my Grandmother having this Mark Twain quote on her refrigerator - "Age is an issue of mind over matter - If you don't mind, it doesn't matter".
Cheers!
